Days Gone director blames “woke reviewers” and tech issues for lukewarm response

Days Gone Director Calls Reviewers Woke Thumbnail

Days Gone director and writer John Garvin has blamed “woke reviewers” along with tech issues for the game’s middling response when it first launched.

“Three reasons, 1) It had tech issues like bugs, streaming and frame rate.” Garvin said (via VGC) in a series of tweets responding to a fan. “2) It had reviewers who couldn’t be bothered to actually play the game. 3) And three, it had woke reviewers who couldn’t handle a gruff white biker looking at his date’s ass.”

Some commentators disagreed with Garvin’s take on Days Gone’s reception, and while he has appeared to continue to stand his ground. His Twitter account is currently put under protected status as of this writing.

Previously, he has stated that the game’s success hinged more on initial sales and that if people wanted a sequel, more should buy it at full price rather than waiting for a big discount.

While a sequel for the game is still up in the air, Sony does appear to still care about the Days Gone IP. A PC port was launched back in 2021, and reports claim a film adaptation is in the works as well.

Days Gone is available now for PlayStation 4 and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store).
