We’ve learned (via GamesBeat) that Daybreak Game Company (formerly Sony Online Entertainment) is losing their CEO, as longtime boss John Smedley is parting ways (temporarily at least) with the company.
“I can confirm that John Smedley will be taking some time off from the company for the near-term and transitioning to a different role to be determined,” a spokesperson for Daybreak told GamesBeat. “Upon finalization of his plans, further communication will be provided.”
The publisher is primarily known for the Everquest series, as well as their recent MMO, H1Z1 (pictured above). Smedley had been made a target by the hacker group the Lizard Squad in August of last year, alongside the Sony Online Entertainment servers (as well as the Playstation Network servers) being attacked, and in some cases, disabled.
While Smedley is stepping down as president and CEO, the current COO Russell Shanks will take the role as the new president of the company.
