Darkest Dungeon Gets a Retail Version for PS4 and Switch

Popular roguelike Darkest Dungeon is getting a physical release, thanks to Merge Games. Titled Darkest Dungeon: Ancestral Edition, it includes both expansions, The Crimson Court and The Shieldbreaker.

The game, originally released for PC in early 2016, revolves around the player controlling a group of heroes that explore the dark and otherworldly catacombs beneath a mansion they inherited. Besides PC, PS4, and Switch, the game is available on PS Vita and iPad.

Darkest Dungeon: Ancestral Edition launches this March for 30$ on PS4 and 40$ on Switch.

Switch owners continue to get screwed on prices.

This makes me a little cranky since I just picked up the digital Darkest Dungeon version. I should really hold off, a lot of these indies are getting physical versions.

    Cartridge tax.

Still, a Switch physical version is actually useful compared to PS4. You can own a physical blu-ray disc but you’ll still be required to install massive amounts of data. Not sure why I would keep buying PS4 discs if that’s the case.

It’s almost as like Sony and Microsoft wants everyone to go digital.

Its because blurays read extremely slowly and you would have horrible load times if you didn’t install.

I can get the cartridge tax for the bigger games that use a larger capacity, but a game like Darkest Dungeon must be using one of the smallest ones, and while they might still cost a bit more than a blu-ray to manufacture I find it hard to believe a $10 hike is that neccesary.

I’ve been stuck on a toaster for a while, and I’m tempted to nab this. The only issue being if it gets later DLC from PC, and that I know a lot of the surprises/story- so it’d just be for the gameplay (which is why you play games, but still)- and to a lesser extent, mods that arguably improve the game.
I’ve got other stuff I want to play first, but if I ever need something this will be up there.

There’s one more DLC coming out (who knows about more DLC after that) that launches around the same time as the physical copies. I wish they’d just charged more and included the third DLC on the disc / cartridge.

A Switch fits in your back pocket just fine unless you’re wearing gay jeans to look like a girl.

It’s a death wish where i live. Cellphones hardly get a pass if you put a cover for it to call as little attention as possible (or look as cheap as possible). Phone in one pocket and switch in another is begging to be robbed worse

Then instead of spending money on gadgets and video games, maybe you should save up to move out of the ghetto?

Ghetto? Aren’t you a funny kid? I fear for walking in the city center of the state’s capital city!

And I’d save up a lot if I just needed to buy the game on android app store instead of needing a new device just for it.

I won’t be buying until they fix the “difficulty pride” and “never again” bullshit. The difficulty pride thing is the most annoying though- as if any hero in the world of Darkest Dungeon would have a problem with doing a milk run. They’re scared to go on normal missions, traumatized when they do, but an easy mission? No, that’s beneath them. ?

“I fear for walking in the city center of the state’s capital city!”

Like I said. Decent people fled inner cities decades ago because inner cities are crime ridden shit holes. Your fear of being assaulted and mugged just for having a phone proves my point.

    Really funny kid.

First, you didn’t said anything you could bring back with a “like I said”

Second, you work where the employer needs you to.

Third, “decent people” is really subjective

Fourth, and for a second time, it’s way easier and cheaper if an android version is released. If there’s an iOS version around, it can be done.

Just because you work in a shithole doesn’t mean you have to be dumb enough to live in said shithole. I’ll bet money I’ve got around 10 years on you, which is why I put more value on safety than being trendy by living in the inner city.

“Third, “decent people” is really subjective”

No, it’s not. Decent people don’t rob others, unlike the scum you choose to live with.

As for Android, the Switch is no different than an Android tablet, they just don’t see a market for it. You’re not going to be able to see shit on a phone, which puts you back to the same problem of you live in a shithole and would be mugged if anyone saw you with a tablet. Remember, son, you’re the one who started talking about how you lived in a shithole where anyone with a cellphone gets mugged. Don’t blame me for pointing out that you should prioritize living in a safe area over hobbies.
