Indie developer Path Games has announced Dark Mass, an underwater psychological horror game for PC and consoles.
Dark Mass is in development for Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 with a release set for later in 2026.
Here’s a rundown on the game, plus its reveal trailer:
Dark Mass is a first-person psychological horror game that immerses you in the eerie silence of the deep ocean, where time stands still and forgotten horrors await. Play as Alice, a deep-sea explorer who, alongside her brother Reed, discovers the remains of a shipwreck unearthed after an earthquake. But beneath the wreckage lies something far more disturbing: a sunken manor, untouched despite the passing of centuries, waiting to be discovered.
Venturing inside, Alice soon realizes she isn’t alone. An implacable presence lurks in the shadows, bound to the manor by a dark curse.
To escape, Alice must uncover its tragic past, solve puzzles based on real historical torture rituals, and make moral decisions that define her fate.
Key Features:
- Thalassophobia: The first horror game set entirely underwater, where vertical exploration and environmental physics add new layers of tension. Leveraging the fear of deep waters to deliver an intense, profound, and novel horror experience.
- Narrative Exploration with Choices: Communicate with your brother Reed through a fully Spanish-voiced walkie-talkie system as you unravel the secrets hidden in the depths.
- Disturbing Ritual Puzzles: Solve unique, unsettling challenges based on inquisitorial tortures to unveil the mansion’s mysteries.
