Cygames and Platinum Games Reveal Action RPG Granblue Fantasy Project Re: Link

Platinum Games are being contracted to co-develop all kinds of games these days – now they’re working on a new action RPG with Cygames.

Following the Swort Art Online naming convention scheme, the game is named Granblue Fantasy Project Re: Link. Featured above, you can view the game’s announcement trailer.

Further details (like development platforms) were not confirmed, however we know the music is composed by industry legend Nobuo Uematsu, with character designs by Hideo Minaba. Finally, the game’s director is Tetsuya Fukuhara, and its producer is Koichi Haruta.

Development on Granblue Fantasy Project Re: Link is reportedly 10% complete.

Eh. Platinum’s licenced games have been average at best and awful at worst. Guess we’ll see if it was their fault or Activision’s with this.

Depends if it’s the A team or the B team.
Could be a Transformers: Devastation, could be a Korra.

Hey, a female main character! And she’s attractive while not wearing a “chainmail bikini” that is apparently abhorrent.
Maybe feminists and SJW will like this game? : ^ )

On a serious note, really eager to hear more about this.

Looks alright, can’t wait for some localization company like Namco or NISA to pick it up and “localize” (censor) it into oblivion.

Looks ok, but I can see lots of things that need to be censored, like bare skin on legs, arms and faces.

what a pitty, you’re a relic, a controlled opposition within your movement and your only purpose is giving the label, which those you oppose control, more influence by legitimizing it

Yeah I’m quite excited about this project myself as someone who formerly played the mobile game it launched as. That said, it’s unlikely said character your looking at (Katarina) is the main character per say. Gran/Djeeta are the two main characters of the mobile game and they can basically be any class, so it’s most likely they’ll be first character you play as, with this simply showing off different styles of play.

That said, it really is cool that I’ll finally be able to play as the other characters. I just hope most of my favorites show up, but it’ll probably be the most popular characters + main cast, which I guess I’m alright with. Do hope they drop more info soon.

Hey ya’ll I hear you hate mobile games, so here’s a game funded by mobile games.
Ya’ll shouldn’t play it because something something by a mobile company even though it might be a PC or console game.

    Giant Enemy Crab spotted.

Game looks interesting, but seeing how the previous Granblue Fantasy game is a mobile, I’m betting this is going to be the same.

I’m glad Platinum Games are starting to move away from character action games, if they kept pushing out crap like TF:Devastation and TMNT, it will only devalue the eventual Bayonetta 3.

is it me or has the company set their minds on the Action RPG genre (Scalebound. NieR, and this?)

TF was pretty good. Didnt care much for TMNT though and though I havent played Star Fox 0, ive been hearing that one has been a mixed bag, so they havent had the best track record recently.

From the looks of it though with their upcoming games they’re working on, they seem to be shifting towards a different direction, which isnt a bad thing.

did they actually handle the gameplay in starfox 0 tho?

I like how the artstyle translates to the character models, but everything else has a sense of genericness to it. Still, even if I don’t have high hopes, it should still be better than most of its contemporaries.

Really wouldn’t mind a return to form with a proper balls-to-the-wall action game, though; it’s high time that Rising sequel got announced already.

hope it is not a mobile, game, allowed the final fantasy mobius game to auto on my phone for the last few weeks and it looks awfully similar to this in terms of basic combat interactions (yet the game sucks as zero reason to run on manual the overworld is a standard top down set of mobile game map nodes with a set number of enemy waves to defeat to unlock the next node.).

Looking at the history of the two companies, I’ll give Platinum the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to Activision trying to cut corners.

Its only 10% complete, so hopefully you can attribute the genericness too that since they only showed off 2 different enemies.

Korra is the bad case, but it depends on how much they enjoy making it from what I’ve seen.
That or how much time they are able to put into it since korra and TMNT seemed to be put out in a month.

That’s not the main character. Gran is the main character. They just don’t show him and Luria yet in the trailer. But I doubt they’d cut them out as they are extremely important characters plot-wise.

I’m worried Platinum is spreading themselves thin/spending too much time working on licensed games or helping other developers. The last couple of games they’ve worked on have ranged from ‘meh’ to ‘shit’.

They need to get back to doing their own stuff. Feels like the last stellar thing they did was Bayo 2. Transformers was fun enough but not nearly up to their usual standards.

That said, this looks nice, will hope for the best.

I watched it again, it is less the graphics more the control scheme, no UI but there definite controller based character dodging and enemy repositioning going non (the magic user however seemed to be pure off-map support or reserved for larger engagements), those are not hallmarks of mobile titles which favour static characters outside of grid based RPG systems. The visual fidelity is decent on the grass and characters but the terrain is basic and the level looked linear as it gets with one rock-bridge in the sky with a few clouds on the edges plus the one rock outcropping above a small valley, I’m guessing this will be something of a zelda twilight princess style map overall constrained but likely expansive. overall the poly count seems decent but it is the art style and texture maps that look impressive, combat scale seen so far does seem high enough to indicate console over mobile or handheld though.

C’mon dude how long have SJW’S been around? I can already predict their complaints

    – She’s white therefore promoting white supremacy and that’s racist m’kay
    – She’s thin thus discriminating against fat people since fat people never have positive portrayals
    – She’s pretty for the male eye thus she is objectified for the male gaze. A representative of Patrachiaral beauty standards that reinforces heteronormative beauty standards for women thus is oppressive.
    – She’s a Ms. Male character and has no identity of her own since males are the default.
    – Her character (skills and story) is designed for male approved attributes thus saying that female attributes are invalid thus excluding female gamers thus reinforcing the notion that gaming is a sexist boys club.

Shit I need to spend less time on the Internet lol.
