Cyberpunk Edgerunners season 2 is officially happening

Cyberpunk Edgerunners

In a recent panel at Anime Expo, Netflix confirmed that Cyberpunk Edgerunners is officially in the works.

The anime series led to a resurgence in popularity for the game Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt Red and even got referenced in-game after a content patch. The first season of the anime quickly became popular due to its memorable characters and musical track, including “I Really Want to Stay at Your House” by Rosa Walton, and “Let You Down” by Dawid Podsiadło.

The original anime follows David Martinez, a young man who finds himself embroiled in the criminal underbelly of Night City after he’s essentially recruited by netrunner Lucy Kushinada.

It’s unclear at the moment what the new season will be about, while remaining free of spoilers; all we can say is that it will be very difficult for some of the cast members to return. There’s also the fact that Cyberpunk Edgerunners was developed as a one-off, wrapping up the story with one season. Back in 2022 series producer Satoru Honma said:

However, to avoid any misunderstanding, Cyberpunk Edgerunners is originally a standalone work, so there is no such thing as “We are actually currently working on Season 2 behind the scenes.” Even if we are able to make an anime in the future, I don’t know if it will be Season 2 or a completely different work.

A release date for season 2 has yet to be announced. You can check out our review of Cyberpunk Edgerunners here.

Update: The official X account for Cyberpunk Edgerunners confirmed that the new season will be an all new standalone story.
