Cyberpunk Edgerunners praised by Hideo Kojima

Cyberpunk Edgerunners

The recent anime series Cyberpunk Edgerunners has captured the attention of the internet ever since it was released on Netflix earlier this month. Video game developer Hideo Kojima weighed in with his opinion on the series in the wake of all the buzz.

In a recent tweet, Kojima compared the city to cyberpunk classic Cyber City Oedo 808, a cyberpunk series from 1990 from industry superstar Madhouse. Kojima is known for enthusiastically sharing his critique on movies.

I just watched “Cyberpunk Edgerunners” in one sitting! Awesome! Great! Under the recent domestic anime situation, there was a feeling that famous Japanese studios were consumed by the overseas market, but not this one! This is a miracle of squeezing the trigger to the world!

The series premiered earlier this month as a Netflix Original from studio Trigger. Trigger is famous for their work on Kill la Kill, Little Witch Academia, and the upcoming Delicious in Dungeon anime. The anime features an original story set in the Cyberpunk universe created by Mike Pondsmith and popularized by the Netrunner card game and recent Cyberpunk 2077 video game from CD Projekt Red.
