CD Projekt Red have revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 will have an option for streamers to disable licensed music.
During the Night City Wire Episode 5 presentation (at 19:32), CD Projekt Red’s Head of UK Communication Hollie Bennett revealed that streamers and other content creators will have an option tailored for them.
This allows licensed music to be disabled, and replaced with another track. This is automatically turned on when streaming from a console version of the game, but it can be toggled regardless.
“We know that for content creators, licensed music can sometimes be problematic, so with this new mode, you’ll be able to disable a small number of selected tracks which could cause some issues; replacing them with a different song, helping to avoid any problems.”
As previously reported [1, 2] real life Swedish punk rock band Refused created the music for in-game band SAMURAI.
Other real life musical talent lending their abilities include Run the Jewels, Grimes, A$AP Rocky, Gazelle Twin, Ilan Rubin, Richard Devine, Nina Kraviz, Deadly Hunta, Rat Boy, and Tina Guo.
The announcement comes after Twitch received a mass of DMCA complaints due to music played on numerous Twitch channels. This resulted in them purging thousands of videos with no prior notification, or what videos were deleted and for what piece of music. Twitch features a system where playbacks on prior streams will mute sections of copywritten music.
Upon users begging for advice on how to avoid being DMCA struck in the future, Twitch told one user on Twitter “utilizing any option to turn music off if the game includes that option, or mute the game audio.”

Cyberpunk 2077 is launching December 10th on Windows PC (via Epic Games, GOG, and Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Google Stadia.
