Cuphead Briefly Appears on PlayStation Store

Cuphead

A listing for Studio MDHR’s indie run and gun Cuphead has briefly appeared on the PlayStation Store in some regions.

A ResetEra user claimed that at one point the 2017 PC and Xbox One title had appeared on the UK PlayStation store. This was supported with an alleged screenshot. Others claimed they was it on the Australian PlayStation Store as well.

The credibility of these claims is further improved due to an upcoming Summer Games Fest event. Host Geoff Keighley announced on July 27th “Tomorrow at 11 am ET / 8 am PT join me for a special update from one of our favorite indie game studios.”

Twitter user Wario64 (an account dedicated to video game news and leaks) discussed the aforementioned PlayStation Store appearance, and highlighted Keighley’s upcoming announcement. Keighley replied with a .gif stating “let’s take a step back.” When pressed for more information, Keighley posted a video of Sesame Street characters singing about the letter L.

“Taking an L” (slang for accepting a loss) in this context could mean Keighley has accepted the surprise has been revealed, or that Wario64 was wrong in theorizing the upcoming announcement from Summer Games Fest would be about this supposed Cuphead leak.

Keighly had allegedly tweeted a now deleted .gif of a character giving a thumbs up at one point, though this may have been due to Twitter’s own in-built .gif searcher, and Keighly selecting the wrong one (when he intended to send the aforementioned “let’s take a step back” .gif).

The upcoming DLC for CupheadThe Delicious Last Course– is also set to launch in 2020. The Xbox website erroneously states the DLC is available now, and has done since January 2020 (thanks @Wario64!) In earlier news, a teaser for The Cuphead Show was revealed.

You can find the full rundown on the game (via Steam) below.

Cuphead is a classic run and gun action game heavily focused on boss battles. Inspired by cartoons of the 1930s, the visuals and audio are painstakingly created with the same techniques of the era, i.e. traditional hand drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings.

Play as Cuphead or Mugman (in single player or local co-op) as you traverse strange worlds, acquire new weapons, learn powerful super moves, and discover hidden secrets while you try to pay your debt back to the devil!

Cuphead is available on Windows PC, Mac (both via GOG, and Steam), and Nintendo Switch.
