It’s been a while since I did a Kickstarter post. Like I said in the first Crowdfunding Recap, this wouldn’t be a regularly scheduled series.
Instead, I’ll only make one when I happen to find four or five campaigns that look worth checking out. Now that the holidays are behind us, crowdfunding campaigns are finally starting to pick up again and I managed to find some interesting games to highlight.
Here are five promising Kickstarter campaigns that you may want to check out:
One Step From Eden
Developer: Thomas Moon Kang
Platforms: Windows PC, Mac, Linux, Switch (Stretch Goal)
Funding Goal: $15,000 (346% funded)
End Date: February 2nd
Release Date: Q3 2019
One Step From Eden is a deckbuilding action-roguelite that takes some obvious inspiration from the Mega Man Battle Network series. Choose your path through a procedurally generated world and engage in fast paced, real-time battles on grid-based maps. Add new cards to your deck from an arsenal of over 200 weapons and spells. Whenever you beat a boss in One Step From Eden, you are given the chance to finish or spare them, with the consequences of your actions coming into play later on in your run. The game also features co-op and competitive multiplayer. You can find a link to a demo on the Kickstarter page.
One Step From Eden is in its final few days, and has long since surpassed it’s initial funding goal. At the time of writing this, the developers are about $8,000 away from the Switch port stretch goal. The minimal pledge required to get a digital copy is $15.
Tunche
Developer: LEAP Game Studios
Platforms: Windows PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, Switch, Xbox One
Funding Goal: $35,000 (50% funded)
End Date: February 14th
Release Date: Q4 2019
Tunche is a hand-drawn 2D brawler with roguelite elements created by a small Peruvian indie studio. The game is set in the Amazonian jungle, and draws inspiration from the unique myths and tribal folklore of the developers’ home country. Fight dangerous creatures and bosses as one of four playable characters, each with their own set of upgradable skills and combos. Tunche can be played alone or with three friends in co-op multiplayer. LEAP Game Studios created a standalone demo called Tunche: Arena that you can find on Steam.
Tunche has just over two weeks left to raise another $17k to reach its initial funding goal. You can get a copy for as little as $20.
Little Legend
Developer: Nevermind
Platforms: Windows PC, Mac, PS4, Switch, Xbox One
Funding Goal: $34,980 (90% funded)
End Date: February 8th
Release Date: Q2 2020
Little Legend is a 2D open world adventure game set in a surreal, hand-drawn fantasy realm. You play as Pimpim, a young girl with supernatural abilities that sets off on her own to explore the world. Combine elements and ingredients to craft spells, many of which have uses in both combat and puzzles. Turn into a magical flying weasel to quickly travel across the land, squeeze into small areas, and communicate with animals.
The game is just on the edge of being fully funded, with a little over a week left to raise around $3,000. Digital copies start at $25.
Evergate
Developer: Stone Lantern Games
Platforms: Windows PC
Funding Goal: $25,000 (94% funded)
End Date: February 15th
Release Date: Q4 2019
Evergate is a 2D puzzle-platformer set in the realm of Gods and spirits where souls are reborn. You play as one such soul, but have refused to give up your worldly memories to travel on to the afterlife. The game is based around aiming and firing your soulflame at special crystals to traverse each of the game’s 100+ levels. There are 10 types of crystals, each of which have a different power that activates when shot. You can find a link to a demo on the Kickstarter page.
Evergate is about to enter its final two weeks and is already almost fully funded. Digital copies start at $15.
Shadow Tactics- The Board Game
Developer: Antler Games
Funding Goal: $45,726 (121% funded)
End Date: February 14th
Release Date: Q4 2019
Finally, we come to something a little different. Shadow Tactics- The Board Game is, as its name implies, a board game adaptation of the tactical stealth game from 2016 by Mimimi Productions and Daedalic Entertainment. The board game version supports six players, five of which control each of the main characters from the PC game. The sixth player is the Daimyo, the grand villain that the team of ninja heroes are trying to defeat. The ninjas will sneak around towns and fortresses, using their special abilities to avoid detection and silently take out guards. The Daimyo will move his patrols around the map trying to stop the ninjas from completing their objectives. There is also a solo mode and a completely cooperative mode where the Daimyo is controlled by a script.
Shadow Tactics- The Board Game is already well past its initial funding goal, and is currently focusing on expanding the game with stretch goals. Pledges start at $67 for the base game.
