Crowdfunding Recap – Everspace 2, Creature Keeper, and More

Its certainly been a long time since I’ve done a Crowdfunding Recap, but I’m finally back with another batch of promising games currently looking for funding on Kickstarter.

Even if you don’t like to crowdfund anything, be sure to keep an eye on these games if any of them catch your interest so you can support them when they come out.

Here’s 5 promising games currently on Kickstarter:

Heart of the Woods
Developer: Studio Elan
Platforms: Windows PC, Mac, Linux, Switch
Funding Goal: $17,000 (152% funded)
End Date: October 31st

First up is a campaign for the yuri visual novel Heart of the Woods. The game follows two friends, Maddie and Tara, that work on a web series where they investigate supernatural phenomenon, but the pair end up finding more than they bargained for when they decide to take one last trip together to a remote forest village. The game is already done and available on Steam, GOG, and Denpasoft (NSFW warning since Denpasoft sells the uncensored version), but this campaign hopes to fund full English voice acting for the game. This campaign also gives fans a chance to grab the upcoming Switch port, as well as physical copies and other limited edition merch like keychains, shirts, mugs, magnets, and artbooks.

Physical merch is expected to ship in June 2020, and you can get a digital copy of the game for $15.

Rewrite+
Developer: Sekai Project
Platforms: Windows PC
Funding Goal: $180,000 (55% funded)
End Date: November 16th

On the subject of visual novels, Sekai Project is raising funds to finish localizing Key’s classic VN Rewrite+, along with Rewrite Harvest festa! The project was first announced in 2017, but has run into financial trouble that forced the English translation process to stall multiple times over the last few years. This campaign hopes to raise the money Sekai Project needs to both finish the translation, and produce a run of physical copies. There’s a variety of merch on offer as well in the higher pledge levels.

Should the campaign succeed, the translation is expected to be done in late 2020. You can buy a digital copy starting at $40.

Everspace 2
Developer: ROCKFISH Games
Platforms: Windows PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, Xbox One
Funding Goal: $498,667 (68% funded)
End Date: November 4th

Everspace 2 is in its final week on Kickstarter and could still use a decent sized boost to reach its goal. The sequel is taking a much different approach from the original, ditching the roguelite set-up in favor of building a huge open-world sandbox RPG, complete with a story campaign that lets players carve out their own niche in the galaxy.

Everspace 2 is still fairly early in development. It is expected to hit Early Access in September 2020, and probably won’t get a final release until late 2021. Pledges start at $34 for a digital copy.

Creature Keeper
Developer: Fervir
Platforms: Windows PC
Funding Goal: $30,000 (73% funded)
End Date: November 13th

Creature Keeper is a top-down action RPG with monster taming elements. The game allows you to befriend creatures roaming the wilderness and build a team of loyal companions that will aid you in battle. Grow plants in your pocket garden and use them to cook hearty meals to improve your creatures. Learn more about each species to further enhance their combat potential. You can find a link to a demo on the Kickstarter page.

Creature Keeper isn’t expected to be done until sometime in 2021. You can buy a copy starting at $15.

BOC: The Birth Of Civilizations
Developer: Code::Arts
Platforms: Windows PC, Mac, Linux
Funding Goal: $49,866 (35% funded)
End Date: November 7th

Finally, we come to BOC: The Birth Of Civilizations, a rather ambitious historical 4X that lets players lead a tribe from the Ice Age up to the fall of the Roman Empire. The game takes a unique approach to civilization management by not letting you pick the nation you want to play, but rather encouraging you to guide a tribe in that direction based on your decisions and where you choose to settle down. The game also takes place in massive, spherical maps with dynamic weather and environments that change over the centuries, forcing you to adapt to new climates and landforms as they develop.

BOC: The Birth Of Civilizations is expected to enter Early Access in 2020. Pledges start at $18.
