Critical Mode and New DLC in Development for Kingdom Hearts III

Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed new updates and DLC currently in development for Kingdom Hearts III.

Firstly, Nomura confirmed (via Dengeki) Critical Mode difficulty was being worked on. He also stated it was not merely a case of increasing damage values, wanting to make it unique to other difficulty modes. He also stated more debugging had to be done due to this.

From Kingdom Hearts III Ultimania – an official companion book for the game- we know Critical Mode is coming as a free update to the game.

Nomora also stated certain mysteries within the game would be explained in upcoming DLC. In addition he stated that content that would usually be found only in a “Final Mix” edition will also be available as DLC on its own.

Finally, Nomura confirmed that there would be more free and paid DLC- with paid DLC coming out as a batch with “several elements”.

“I think that free DLC will be issued in the form of additional updates from what I can do, but pay DLC is planning to put out several elements at once as a batch. As a result, I am pleased that it will take some time to produce a fee-based DLC, but as soon as possible within the year as soon as possible, I would like the team to undertake the next work.”

Normura also kept vague on certain other mysteries within the game and its secret ending. Without posting spoilers ourselves, he did state there were enough clues for players to solve some elements.

Kingdom Hearts III is available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In case you missed it, you can find our review here (we highly recommend it!)
