Sega and Hardlight Studio have revealed a brand new Crazy Taxi game that is totally free to play, and on mobile devices. Fans of the series typically fondly remember when it debuted on the Sega Dreamcast all those years ago.

The new game, Crazy Taxi: City Rush, is in development for mobile devices, although that shouldn’t get you to thinking that the game will be just for casuals. The team at Hardlight Studios are trying to walk the fine line between the casual player and the hardcore one.

The game is being helmed by the creator of the original, Kenji Kanno, and it is confirmed to be exclusive to mobile devices. The soundtrack will feature licensed music from various indie and underground artists, although you will also be able to play music from your iOS or Android devices – so go ahead and load up The Offspring.

The gameplay is highly streamlined to utilize swipe motions to change lanes and veer around corners, and you’ll even be able to upgrade your cab to increase both its power and visual fanciness. There will be a large variety of missions and special challenges that you can tackle in an entirely new, open world city.

Lastly, while the game is free to play, micro-transactions were not confirmed as of yet, and neither was a release date. However, to celebrate, Sega has made the original Crazy Taxi completely free to play on both iOS and Android (available only until the 19th), so go on and cruise to some kickin’ tunes.
