Crash Bandicoot 5

We’ve learned despite the recent Crash Bandicoot releases selling quite well, Crash Bandicoot 5 has reportedly been canceled while it was in development.

The news that Crash Bandicoot 5 was canceled comes from former Toys for Bob artist/designer Nicholas Kole, who worked on the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, and more.

“Some day folks will hear about the Crash [Bandicoot] 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts,” Kole said on his social media. The artist/designer was actually lamenting the cancelation of their internal “Project Dragon”, which they worked on for years.

To be clear, Kole opened up about their now-canceled Project Dragon, which he said was a totally new IP though he’s confident “if you’ve ever liked anything I’ve done, you’d have *loved* this one.”

“Our cancelled project of the last 3 years is officially, truly dead as of today (internal attempts to save it failed),” Kole said. “The embargo on the whole body of portfolio work has been lifted. RIP Project Dragon. Brace yourselves for the largest ever art bomb of work I loved.”

The designer proceeded to post a ton of artwork from the now-canceled Project Dragon, though he had to reiterate that Crash Bandicoot 5 was not in development at Toys for Bob, though whoever actually worked on the fifth entry remains unconfirmed.

Kole also had to reiterate that Project Dragon was not related to the other beloved franchise Toys for Bob worked on, Spyro the Dragon, as they produced the very excellent Spyro Reignited Trilogy set of remakes.

“Oh heck, I’m sorry folks- it’s not Spyro,” Kole said. “I didn’t mean to give the fandom a heart attack. ‘Dragon’ is our code name for the totally new IP we were developing for over 3 years.”
