Shinichiro Watanabe, acclaimed director behind iconic series like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Space Dandy, did a Reddit AMA answering questions from his fans.
Among them were questions about his favorite episodes of the shows he’s a part of and what his next move is after the resounding success of his latest project, Carole & Tuesday.
When asked what his favorite anime was, it’s the first season of Lupin the 3rd. His hobbies outside of directing kickass anime are going to record shops and collecting old vinyl records.
He also mused about the passing of the artist who provided the music for Samurai Champloo, Nujabes. He hinted that he had wanted to collab with him again on various projects but the musician passed away before they could make any magic happen again sadly.
His music had an esoteric vibe to it all its own and arguably birthed a genre of rap / funk fusion that has yet to be replicated in quality.
When asked about his thoughts on the live action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop, he alluded to not commenting and telling people to take up any grievances with Sunrise, since they own the IP itself. He did however mention that out of all the projects he was a part of, that Space Dandy was his absolute favorite to work on.
