Coven and Labyrinth of Refrain Launching on January 28 in Japan

This week’s Dengeki PlayStation (via Hachima Kikou) has confirmed the release date for Coven and the Labyrinth of Refrain.

The upcoming Nippon Ichi Software-developed PS Vita dungeon RPG will be launching on January 28th in Japan. It will retail for 5,980 yen (standard edition) and 7,980 yen for the limited edition.

While details for the game are still quite scant (since its reveal in September), we know the game is set in the eponymous town named Refrain, a place where a cursed underground labyrinth waits below.

A witch suddenly arrives, and begins to explore the labyrinth. The player is actually a mythical book dubbed the “Youro Rekitei,” and with the witch (your owner), you will adventure through the dungeon.

It really does sound like a mash up of Makai Kingdom and The Witch and 100 Knight. Hopefully it’ll look nicer than some of their recent games at least.

I’m guessing the real challenge to the game is not making your Vita explode when first played.

This is Nippon Ichi not NISA

To be fair, given NISA has no programmers, any bug in a NISA game is technically something that got in when NIS was putting the localization together and further something they weren’t willing to fix after launch.

Doesn’t excuse it, but the blame is sort of shared there.
