Publisher Clear River Games has announced a western release for Cotton Reboot! High Tension!, the sequel to the Cotton Reboot! remaster.

Cotton Reboot! High Tension! is coming west later this year on October 22nd for Switch, PS4, and PS5. The Switch and PS5 versions will be available physically, too.

The new sequel to the beloved cute ’em up shooter series has been available in Japan since July 2025 for Switch, PS4, and PS5.

• THE SEQUEL TO THE REBOOT – Cotton Reboot! High Tension! is the latest game in the long-running Cotton series. These classic cute ’em ups have existed ever since 1991, when the first game was released in the Japanese arcades. Then as now, you play as the young witch Cotton and her faithful (?!) fairy friend Silk. The original game has a modern remake called Cotton Reboot!, and Cotton Reboot! High Tension! is the natural sequel and evolution of that very remake. Magical!
• A HORIZONTAL ACTION FEST – There are two schools of shoot ’em ups: either they scroll vertically or they scroll horizontally. Cotton Reboot! High Tension! is an example of the latter. You control the witch Cotton as she flies on her broom, firing forward or using bomb attacks on ground targets. The enemies you face are as tough as they are numerous, but Cotton’s firepower is nothing to scoff at. Fight hard and you will prevail.
• CRYSTAL POWER – When you defeat enemies in Cotton Reboot! High Tension!, they drop yellow crystals. If you shoot the crystals before picking them up, they will change color. Colored crystals help you level up your different elemental spells. But that’s not all! By shooting your shots straight through the crystals and into enemies, you’ll fill up a special bar and can eventually activate a mode called Willow Fever.
• OVER TENSION – Where does the game’s subtitle High Tension come from, you wonder? Well, it’s tied to the game’s signature mechanic! When you’re in Willow Fever mode, collect Willow candy to enter Over Tension. When Over Tension is active, enemy attacks become more extreme, but in return you can use powerful hidden magic to boost your score. If you want the highest possible points, it’s important to learn how to use Over Tension correctly. Good luck!
