Microsoft and developer Avalanche Studios have announced they’re no longer working on Contraband, their 2021-announced “co-op smuggler’s paradise” game.
While Contraband was announced way back in 2021 for PC and Xbox Series X|S, we haven’t heard a peep about the game since.
Now that Microsoft’s deep cuts and studio closures have hit, Contraband is the latest game on the chopping block and has been effectively cancelled.
“Over the past several years, Avalanche Studios Group and Xbox Game Studios Publishing have collaborated on Contraband,” a message from the studio reads. “Active development has now stopped while we evaluate the project’s future. We’re thankful for the excitement we’ve seen from the community since we announced and will give an update on what’s next as soon as we can.”
Though Avalanche Studios notes they are still evaluating the game’s future and it may be released someday, the timing of its effective cancellation arrives not long after the latest round of cuts at Microsoft.
