Comfy, Country-Life RPG Stardew Valley Now Available

stardew valley 02-26-16-1

Developer Concernedape has released their country-life RPG, Stardew Valley.

The game is now available on PC, for $14.99. In Stardew Valleyyou inherit your grandfather’s old plot of farmland in the region of the same name, Stardew Valley.

You’ll be tasked with starting your new life with nothing but hand-me-down tools, a bit of money, and your own personal aspirations. You’ll have lots of options to pursue: a thriving farm, a marriage, and of course – restoring Stardew Valley back to its former glory, in spite of the Joja Corporation’s slow erosion of the community.

Here are the game’s key features:

  • Turn your overgrown field into a lively farm! Raise animals, grow crops, start an orchard, craft useful machines, and more! You’ll have plenty of space to create the farm of your dreams.
  • Improve your skills over time. As you make your way from a struggling greenhorn to a master farmer, you’ll level up in 5 different areas: farming, mining, combat, fishing, and foraging. As you progress, you’ll learn new cooking and crafting recipes, unlock new areas to explore, and customize your skills by choosing from a variety of professions.
  • Become part of the local community. With over 30 unique characters living in Stardew Valley, you won’t have a problem finding new friends! Each person has their own daily schedule, birthday, unique mini-cutscenes, and new things to say throughout the week and year. As you make friends with them, they will open up to you, ask you for help with their personal troubles, or tell you their secrets! Take part in seasonal festivals such as the luau, haunted maze, and feast of the winter star.
  • Explore a vast, mysterious cave. As you travel deeper underground, you’ll encounter new and dangerous monsters, powerful weapons, new environments, valuable gemstones, raw materials for crafting and upgrading tools, and mysteries to be uncovered.
  • Breathe new life into the valley. Since JojaMart opened, the old way of life in Stardew Valley has changed. Much of the town’s infrastructure has fallen into disrepair. Help restore Stardew Valley to it’s former glory by repairing the old community center, or take the alternate route and join forces with Joja Corporation.
  • Court and marry a partner to share your life on the farm with. There are 10 available bachelors and bachelorettes to woo, each with unique character progression cutscenes. Once married, your partner will live on the farm with you. Who knows, maybe you’ll have kids and start a family?
  • Spend a relaxing afternoon at one of the local fishing spots. The waters are teeming with seasonal varieties of delicious fish. Craft bait, bobbers, and crab pots to help you in your journey toward catching every fish and becoming a local legend!
  • Donate artifacts and minerals to the local museum.
  • Cook delicious meals and craft useful items to help you out. With over 100 cooking and crafting recipes, you’ll have a wide variety of items to create. Some dishes you cook will even give you temporary boosts to skills, running speed, or combat prowess. Craft useful objects like scarecrows, oil makers, furnaces, or even the rare and expensive crystalarium.
  • Customize the appearance of your character and house. With hundreds of decorative items to choose from, you’ll have no trouble creating the home of your dreams!
  • Xbox controller support (with rumble)! (Keyboard still required for text input)
  • Over two hours of original music.

Finally, here are the game’s required minimum specs:

  • OS: Windows 7 or greater
  • Processor: 2 Ghz
  • Memory: 2 GB RAM
  • Graphics: 256 mb video memory, shader model 3.0+
  • DirectX: Version 10
  • Storage: 500 MB available space

I hope this is good because I love the Harvest Moon series, but haven’t played one I enjoyed in awhile. 64 fan for life!

As much as I love Harvest Moon and appreciate the clear affection that many of the people producing these Fauxvest Moon games have for the series as well, I really wish they’d try a bit harder to establish their own identity.

That entire synopsis and features list could be summarized as “Do everything you can in a real Harvest Moon game, only in a game that isn’t Harvest Moon!” I don’t think I’ve yet seen the community-life farm-sim game that tried to break the mold, outside of Rune Factory and, with somewhat mixed results, Harvest Moon itself.

To be fair, you can’t have a same-sex marriage in Harvest Moon, so us yuri fans are screwed in that department.

They are only the publishers, this game was made by Concernedape.

    It’s got character customization.
Is that a feature in harvest moon?

    I see.
But buying it means giving those fucks at Chucklefish money and I in good consciousness will never do that

What a shame, this looked comfy.

Yet another great success of localization, since in at least one Harvest Moon your female farmer could have “marriage in all but name” with a female character. Naturally that was cut for the western release.

Yes I’m aware of that fact.

It was central to my purchasing decision. But this looks promising.

Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town had so much implied homosexuality.. Methinks that it was because originally in the game could play as a female character but they ran out of development time.

Something wrong with chucklefish? I haven’t heard any reasons to be weary of them, so it’s news to me.

If I remember correctly they developed Starbound a game that is on early access. The issue is that they stopped updating the game for quite a long time. Also they stopped communicating with the community and for some time people thought that they had abandoned the development of the game and any complain would be met with disdain. From what I know they eventually resumed it and are doing a better job on Starbound.

I don’t really like the idea of combat, but I guess they have to add something else to it doesn’t feel too much like Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons. Still looks promising.

Do you remember that mess with Dina and Mighty Number 9’s PR? The Chucklefish devs take a similar attitude towards their customers.

Here’s the ye olde condensed version of the whole Starbound saga:

Yeah, SoS has a pretty good amount of character customization, the new one (SoS: Good Friends of Three Villages) will have clothes and that stuff too.

This game is more Rune Factory than Harvest Moon. That and Harvest Moon has sucked going on a decade now.

I’m pretty sure there’s another way to get Harvest Moon on PC.
