Sentai Filmworks is set to release a remastered set for Panzer World Galient (機甲界ガリアン / Kikōkai Garian), the mid-80s fantasy mecha anime by Ryōsuke Takahashi.
The new remaster includes all 25 episodes of the original anime series, its two Chapter of the Land and the Sky anime films, and its 55-minute Crest of Iron original video animation release.
Originally remastered for Japan back in 2017, this is the first time the series is coming west. A release is set for October 15th and preorders are now live via retailers like Amazon and others.
Panzer World Galient was released back in 1984 by Sunrise and is the third release in the Takahashi Mecha Trilogy, following both Armored Trooper Votoms and Fang of the Sun Dougram, respectively.
Ryōsuke Takahashi directed the original series with Sōji Yoshikawa penning its script, and both Kunio Okawara and Yutaka Izubuchi were on mechanical designs. The series is credited with being the progenitor for later popular series like The Vision of Escaflowne, as it featured giant mecha in a fantasy yet medieval setting.
As with many of these rare or boutique remastered re-releases, it’s likely this will only be available on Blu-ray disc via Sentai Filmworks. Other classic mecha anime shows have been picked up by digital platforms like Crunchyroll, though we should be happy we’re getting an English release at all.
