Civilization VI is Still Getting Mods, Multiplayer Teams, Steam Workshop Support

While Sid Meier’s Civilization VI has been available for some months now, the game has yet to receive much demanded features like official mod support, as well as Steam Workshop integration.

Now, Firaxis has confirmed those features are still on their way, however they’re just not ready yet. In a recent multiplayer livestream (via Reddit) for the game, Firaxis’s Pete Murray confirmed the features are still coming. He also confirmed multiplayer teams are coming in a future update.

“The team is working on those, and when we have more information to share with you, we will be sure to do so,” Murray said in the stream.

It’s worth mentioning official mod support hasn’t stopped fans from creating mods anyway. The game’s latest update added the versatile Polish civilization, as well as the vikings campaign, and more.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI is currently available for PC. In case you missed it, you can find my thorough written / video review of the game here (I highly recommend it!).

Really bizarre how they actually went backwards from Civ V and didn’t have it available on launch. There is absolutely no excuse for no multiplayer teams. Doesn’t make any sense why that would require several months of extra time.

So as a rather dumb question, how hard is it for companies to integrate mod support? I’m not at all knowledgeable on the process, but I would imagine in this day of PC gaming, it would come almost standard on games to allow game modding.

New Civs always go backwards on launch. Civ V was lacking a bunch of stuff Civ IV had for ages.

Personally, I’d rather they spend the time balancing and fleshing out the stuff they have rather than adding new features. The AI is still incompetent.

Consider that Xcom 2 had it on launch (and needed it badly as the main game is rife with bad design decisions), there is no excuse for this game to not have it.

It’s only available to some PC’s; It’s available for Windows and Mac, however a Linux / SteamOS version is still pending.
