Civilization VI Gets a Post-Apocalyptic Battle Royale Mode

You read that headline right – Firaxis Games has announced a new battle royale mode for Sid Meier’s Civilization VI.

The new “Red Death” mode was added to the game as part of its big September 2019 update. Featured above, you can view a new trailer for the new game mode.

The new multiplayer scenario drops cities from the main game mode but keeps players in charge of units in a war-torn, post-apocalyptic nuclear wasteland. Players will be tasked with protecting civilian units from enemy players and the titular Red Death — an expanding cloud of radiation that forces you to fight over increasingly smaller spots of safety.

As the mechanics suggest, whoever has a civilian alive at the end is the winner. There’s a variety of new factions too – ranging from Pirates to Doomsday Preppers to Mutants. You get more units from defeating raider camps or city ruins.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI is currently available for PC. In case you missed it, you can find my thorough written / video review of the game here (I highly recommend it!).
