Chucklefish Release 25 Minutes of Eastward Gameplay

Eastward

Chucklefish have released 25 minutes of new gameplay for developer Pixpil’s retro adventure RPG Eastward.

Announced in 2016, the game takes place in the near-future, where a toxic miasma is sapping life from the land, and bringing the human population to an all-time low. While everyone is living underground, a miner and a strange young girl seek to escape the despots of Sandfill, and venture into the land above via the cross-country railway.

Explore together or split up to solve puzzles, fend off foes, cook food to for stat boosts and abilities; all to retro music by Joel Corelitz (Death Stranding, Hohokum, The Unfinished Swan).

The new gameplay shows players buying the food, ammo, and gear they will need for the adventure ahead; then fighting foes with frying pans, flamethrowers, bombs, and possibly a little magic. The pair acting on their own is also shown, along with a rafting minigame.

Those who could escape the miasma flocked to underground villages to start a new life. But for a hardworking miner and a mysterious young girl, the hope of a thriving outside world beckons…

Escape the tyrannical clutches of Sandfill’s subterranean society and join Eastward’s unlikely duo on an exciting adventure to the land above! Discover beautiful yet bizarre settlements and make new friends as you travel across the world by rail.

Contains adult humour and some mature themes.
