CD Projekt Red says they’re ‘totally, fully committed’ to Cyberpunk franchise

It’s no secret that CD Projekt Red’s anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 had a less than stellar launch riddled with bug and other issues. So much so that they even were hit with a lawsuit over the state the game was released in.

They’ve since worked on the game in fixing many of the bugs which plagued it at launch. The new Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty expansion was also recently announced, and is currently planned as the only expansion for the title.

Despite that fact, the company states they are “fully committed” to developing the Cyberpunk IP, where these words were made during CD Projekt Group’s H1 2022 earnings call.

“We decided to develop one major expansion for Cyberpunk, which is going to take advantage of all the capabilities of the new-gen consoles,” said Michał Nowakowski, CD Projekt Red’s vice president of business development. “Having said that, we’re totally, fully committed to developing the Cyberpunk IP further, beyond this particular Cyberpunk expansion.”

“We’ve put a lot of effort and time into building this franchise and we definitely want to continue to build upon what was built right now – with new stories, new experiences, new content, basically. Not just the video game format… In terms of expansions, there’s just going to be one major expansion. However, there’s going to be new stuff in the future.”

It seems their goals with the franchise do go beyond video games. Which makes sense as they do have Cyberpunk Edgerunners, an anime streaming on Netflix. That fits what they’ve done with their most popular franchise in The Witcher, which has a live action series on the same service.

Cyberpunk 2077 is now available for Windows PC (via Epic GamesGOG, and Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Google Stadia. In case you missed it, you can find our thorough review on the original game here and our port report for its next-gen versions here.

The Phantom Liberty expansion will only be available for Windows PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 – as it will exclude the last gen versions on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
