CD Projekt has announced not one but three new games in The Witcher franchise, plus a totally new original IP.
The new titles set in the iconic franchise include: Project Sirius, Project Polaris, and Project Canis Majoris. All three titles are being developed alongside their new original IP codenamed “Hadar.”
Project Hadar is described as a new IP “distinct” from their other two flagship IPs, and has been developed 100% internally since the end of last year. Development is currently in the conceptual phase by a “small strike team.”
While Project Sirius is a new title being made by The Molasses Flood, it’s described as “an innovative take on The Witcher universe” that will tell “an unforgettable story for existing fans and new audiences.” The game is currently in pre-production and has no solid release window.
Project Polaris is a direct sequel to The Witcher 3, and is set in a new trilogy. This title is also in pre-production, has over 150 staff involved, and all three games are set to be released within a 6 year period after the first title releases.
Lastly, Project Canis Majoris is a new story-driven open-world RPG, set in the same universe. Details are more scant, but the title is being contracted out to a third party studio led by veteran former CD Projekt staff.
It remains to be seen if one of these titles is CD Projekt’s previously confirmed sequel, which they’re building in Unreal Engine 5 – and not their in house development engine.
