Castle in the Darkness Has a Release Date and a New Trailer

Developer-publisher Nicalis released a new trailer today, alongside the announcement of a release date for their next indie game, Castle in the Darkness.

Responsible for the likes of Cave Story, 1001 Spikes, and The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, Nicalis has a reputation for Metroidvania-style games. Matt Kap, the lead artist for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, was responsible for Castle in the Darkness’ development.

You can watch the new video for the game above.

Castle in the Darkness will be available on February 5 for Windows PC, through Steam, and will cost $5.99.

6 bucksnnnThat’s one sweet price, but I’ve had way too many platformers lately since I played Shantae, Shovel Knight and Freedom Planet back to back. I will wait a little before indulging in more hot jumping action.

Agreed it would be nice to see more variety from indie developers other than the typical genres. Id love to see them be super creative and come up with a whole new genre, but alas they are as mortal as you and I. How was Freedom Planet by the way, I saw a demo but I haven’t had a chance to play it? How does it compare with the sonic games?

love the authentic looking 8 bit style graphics and platforming action, but.. the music in the trailer isn’t in the game is it? doesn’t fit the feel of the game at all. sounds like they were trying to copy the Ys music
