Captive Minecraft Makes You a Prisoner Within the Game

It appears some fans had way more input behind the upcoming release of update 1.8 for Minecraft on PC than we could have ever imagined, and they certainly were thinking out of the box, both figuratively and literally speaking.

For those who don’t play the game or follow its development, 1.8 lets players install a flickering wall that encircles an area within the game world, prompting players to develop the new survival mode called “Captive Minecraft.” The new mode places a 1×1 box around the player, a prison that only grows when the player earns achievements.

The official statement from the mod’s creators is a very interesting read:

“For each Minecraft Achievement you get, the World Border widens by half a block in each direction. As your captive world slowly expands, you gain access to more and more resources. You’ll have no trouble Getting Wood or Taking Inventory, but suddenly making that Cake and riding a Pig off a cliff isn’t quite so simple…”

The mod is currently in beta, but it’s already available for download via the Farlanders website. Update 1.8 still isn’t out yet, but you can download the world border feature via a test patch off of Mojang’s website.
