Capcom Teases Future Devil May Cry Titles

Capcom’s Integrated Annual Report has revealed some information about the possible future of the Devil May Cry series.

The 2019 Integrated Report (which you can find here) discusses the company’s future business plans.

Onpage 25 (“Further refining IPs with development structure and brand strategy and foraying into new areas“) the following was noted regarding the Devil May Cry series:

“Moreover, they [Graduate game developers joining Capcom] are overflowing with energy, and desire to use their skills to develop new markets, which is why they joined Capcom, whose DNA is rooted in a focus on global markets. If the employee is highly capable, they may be assigned to the development of major brands, such as Resident Evil or Devil May Cry in the early years of their career. Learning and achieving results under the tutelage of a leader while taking on more responsibility over time readies that employee to eventually take on a leadership role themselves in the future.”

Elsewhere in the document, the franchise was discussed in a positive light. “Both major new titles Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 gave a strong performance” digitally, outperforming their expectations (page 75).

Devil May Cry 5 is also noted to have sold 2.1 million units (as reported previously). These sales figures aided in “successfully reestablishing the series” (page 79).

Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 are mentioned in the same breath again on page 25 under “Analysis of management performance in the fiscal year ended March 2019 (summary)”.

“What I want to point out here is that (1) Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 were both indisputable successes, having been developed in-line with the highly stringent, world-class quality standards that drove the success of Monster Hunter: World.”

Page 33 notes that approximately 80% of the game’s sales were outside of Japan.

Devil May Cry 5 is available now for Windows PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. In case you missed it, you can find our thorough review for the game here (we highly recommend it!)
