Capcom Registers “Onimusha” Trademark

onimusha 12-01-15-1

It seems as though the long forgotten Onimusha series might be getting a revival of sorts.

A NeoGAF user had found that Capcom had registered the trademark for an Onimusha title. The user explicitly states that is not a renewal of the trademark, but a registration.

Unfortunately, no real specifics were shown, as we don’t know if this will be a true to life sequel or just simply a spin off. If it is a sequel, it’ll be the first sequel in the mainline series in 9 years.

We’ll keep you posted.

Why are the Onimusha games not on PSN?

I know that remasters are likely impossible because of the pre-rendered backgrounds they used but I don’t want this franchise to simply disappear in the dustbin of gaming history.

Why impossible? Isn’t that exactly what they did for RE:make?

it has to do with the fact that the actors portrayed by samonosuke and jubei no longer endorse the characters, the contracts have expired. it was very short term thinking.

Were the Onimusha games any good? From what I’ve seen/played it’s like Resident Evil with a Devil May Cry flavor in medieval Japan?

I’d honestly be happy with an HD collection OR a whole new game. I love this series.

Please don’t disappoint me I have been waiting for this for so long if it’s a shitty mobile game or a spinoff i’ll lose what little faith I had left in Capcom (basically hanging on by a thread titled “Monster Hunter”)

Do it! It was ridiculous how they sat on a brand with multiple million selling games for nearly a decade.

I’ve never played one of them and would like a HD remake/collection, but this brand needs exposure in one way or another. I think they released the GBA SRPG on the VC in North America recently and that’s it for recent stuff. I can’t even buy that (mostly Nintendo’s fault since I can play MML1).

How do you even make a mobile Onimusha game? You can’t.

It’s like making a mobile DMC game. Even a developer ought to know that’s a really terrible idea.

Card game. Anything can be made into a shitty, one-dimensional card game with a cash shop.

    On rails
    Slash things with your thumbs
Poke the screen to defend or at the right time to parry
Draw specific shapes on the screen with your fingers to use magic

I should slap the piss out of you for even asking.
Also, it should feel like that, think it was one of the games Resident Evil 4 production produced along with Devil May Cry.

RE:make isn’t a port put on the PSClassics or whatever it is on the PS4. Sony seems to have some kind of stick up their butt about allowing changes even if they’re reasonable like how Megaman Legends 2 still hasn’t made it up on there.

They were fucking awesome! This was back when Capcom actually knew how to make good games and not fuck over its fanbase. Just take a look at this opening movie from the 3rd game.

Huh… Read that line and thought, “Oh god, the horrible idea already happened…”, but after a quick video research, it’s not as bad as I thought.

It’s not the actual full game, but they tried to port the gameplay over the best they could, and it seems to run fine for a phone game (on the right phone, of course). Digital analogues and such, and the stages are simplified, but at least it doesn’t feel like an easy cash-in like a shoddy card game or on-rails stuff.

Seems like some effort went into it, and it was a port of a full product to boot, not a mobile version first. Well done, very well done.
