Capcom is Planning a “Full-Scale Offensive” for Fiscal 2017

resident evil umbrella corps 09-15-15-1

We’ve learned (via NeoGAF) that Capcom has some pretty bold plans for the next fiscal year.

In their latest investor report, the global publisher is teasing a “full-scale offensive” for the next fiscal year, which seems to be directed more at their complete offering, now just their breadwinner Resident Evil.

You can find the relevant quote below:

In the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, the Company is scheduled to release the strategic titles of “Sengoku BASARA Sanada Yukimura-den” (for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3), which showcases the life of Sanada Yukimura, and “Resident Evil Umbrella Corps” (for PlayStation 4 and PC) of the “Resident Evil” series, which marked its 20th anniversary in March 2016, as warm up to the full-scale offensive planned for the second half of the year. Additionally, the Company is also scheduled to launch “Ace Attorney 6” (for the Nintendo 3DS system) and “Monster Hunter Stories” (for the Nintendo 3DS system).

How do you feel about Capcom’s latest offerings, like Street Fighter V, the upcoming Umbrella Corps (Editor’s Note: Featured image), Ace Attorney 6, and Monster Hunter Generations? Sound off in the comments below!

2017 seems like a future year
like, everything after 2017 should be cyberpunk or really clean and white
    but i digress
let’s hope they don’t shit up
    maybe a Megaman?

Being a single-player game, we shouldn’t be worried about game being rushed to met tournament date.

    Sengoku: Never played any.
Resident Evil Umbrella Corps: “20th anniversary” Such a shit showing, makes me wonder if whoever is in charge of anniversary planning at Capcom is divorced.
Ace Attorney 6: Call me when the prequel gets brought over.

Monster Hunter Stories: MH never becomes entertaining for me.

Tbh it would be cool if Capcom hires Platinum Games and Shinji Mikami Tensei to work on Viewtiful Joe 3, Resident Evil 7, God Hand 2, Devil May Cry 5, Okami 2, etc.

Also if capcom hires comcept (lol) to work on Mega Man X9. Yeah, inafundme is a piece of shit but I imagine it’d be different if he was supervised by a cooperation, rather than being granted all this freedom from kikestarter money.

    A man can dream I guess~

I know Capcom has a lot of legendary franchises under it’s belt but all l want is new IPs from them, to me Capcom is at their best when they create something new – they practically reinvented/created certain game genres. l guess it depends if there is anyone brave and talented left at the company, it seems like Capcom has suffered a mortal blow since the closure of Clover studio, they lost allot of their best staff.

    May 9, 2016 at 7:54 pm

honestly I still dont understand how they just dont get this

    Monster Hunter on PC

ok let me just show you where im coming from here, the userbase in Japan and the western world are very different, Capcom have always said that MH has sold somewhat poorly compared to expectations, the reason why is pretty obvious, 3DS. I play MH I have described MH to my friends, some of which have the 3DS and are simply not interested, its not there sort of game. However the friends who I do have online WHO ARE interested seem to be the type who also play dark souls…. and guess what… they dont own a Wii U or 3DS hell most of them dont own a console, they are all on PC and would drop serious cash to play these games IF they where on PC. This is where the MH players would be….

yet still Capcom never bring it to PC in the west…. all we get are pretty well done ports of rubbish resident evils (im look at you 6) and I dont hold much hope for the umbrella corps, but we will see…. they just need to be aware the PC is still waiting for a TRUE hunting game. Perhaps the release of God Eater 1&2 on PC in the near future might make them consider it.

  50. Zombie_Barioth
    May 9, 2016 at 8:55 pm

They’ve actually said MH4U was the best selling game so far, its 3rd at 3.83mi. according to vgchartz, so it seems their audience is indeed on handhelds. That’s not counting digital.

A lot MH’s problems were lack of marketing and newbie-friendliness, not the platform. Its wasn’t very well known, and it’s grindy nature and tendency to drop players into lengthy tutorials turned off many would-be fans.

Ultimately though. I doubt they see the point. Its a more budget-oriented series, so they don’t need it released everywhere to do well, and making a version suitable for PC or even consoles would just increase the budget for not much gain.

I think the whole reason Wii U got it at all was the gamepad made porting simple. Wii got MH3 due to not wanting to compete with ‘real’ console games.

  56. STARSBarry
    May 10, 2016 at 2:09 am

id point out that a vast majority of there numbers are in Japan, MH4 was the first ever that combined managed to SHIP (not sell) just over 1 million outside of Japan, im saying the target audience for there game outside of Japan are not on handhelds, and I do kinda agree MH has always been a budget title but alot of handheld developers have found success on steam with budget PC ports, of course with God Eater 1 & 2 hitting steam, someone else will be taking the “not much gain” risk for them, so if that hits top sellers for a couple of weeks you will already know its been worth it or not.

  57. dsadsada
    May 10, 2016 at 3:26 am

  58. dsadsada
    May 10, 2016 at 3:30 am

But how does this work when Monster Hunter Frontier is already on the PC. Granted, it’s the MH game hardly anyone likes. Still, it’s mere existence will make them think they have that base covered.

  59. STARSBarry
    May 10, 2016 at 3:34 am

since that thing is only licensed in china as far as I know and is more a case of capcom selling the license to the franchise to someone else to make a game from, rather than them making a game themselves theres no base covered as the company who owns it only operates within china. It would probably be easier for Capcom to make an HD port (in the vein of the Wii U MH3U) for PC based on either 4U or X, than get the rights for frontier to distribute elsewhere in the world.

This of course is just me wishing for the damn thing on PC, right now for hunting games the choices are limited.

  60. dsadsada
    May 10, 2016 at 3:35 am

I still don’t understand Sengoku Basara: Yukimura Only. With such a large cast, each with their own fans, why do they decide to focus only on one? And he’s not even the best character. Heck, I think even Motonari has attracted a bigger fujoshi crowd them him last I checked. Which was years ago so I suppose a lot can change in that time.

  61. Zombie_Barioth
    May 10, 2016 at 3:47 pm

    Actually they were sold.

1mil. for a niche game releasing outside Japan is actually pretty good, and the series is steadily growing, which is why I have to disagree with you there. There are console-only series that barely match that if at all, so the claim its due to being on the “wrong platform” doesn’t really work.
