Capcom now requires internet connection to play Resident Evil mobile ports

When it comes to single player games, most do not like when an internet connection is required to play. Yet Capcom’s latest updates to the mobile ports of Resident Evil now require players to have an internet connection.

The new update requires an internet connection to play their mobile ports because of “changes to the startup process.” This has led to some backlash by owners of the games, with some on Reddit stating they’ll refund the game over this matter.

The specific games affected are Resident Evil 4, 7, and Village on smartphones. Resident Evil 7 in particular only just launched for the platform earlier this summer, where such a requirement was not needed.

While they didn’t give details on what they mean for the startup process, many believe this to be DRM related. Interestingly Capcom already removed Denovo from Village on PC last year, so why they would add it to a different port of the game is unknown.

Considering these games all share the same engine, which is also the same for many of Capcom’s games, it’s possible in the future any mobile ports of their games, single player or not, may have the same requirements.
