Capcom has confirmed they’re counting Switch 2 Game-Key Cards as digital sales, news confirmed alongside Street Fighter 6 selling over 5 million copies.
While the latest in their Street Fighter franchise sold over 5 million copies not long after its Switch 2 debut, its Game-Key Card release on the platform led to questions on how those sales are being counted by the publisher.
In follow up questions with their latest financial results to investors, Capcom has officially said they are counting Switch 2 Game-Key Card sales as digital sales, as the physical card is simply a way to download the game and doesn’t have the game actually on its cartridge.
It remains to be seen if this will be standard policy for Capcom for all future Switch 2 releases that are on Game-Key Cards, though it is likely considering this investor Q&A session came after their main financial results briefing.
It’s worth noting Switch 2 Game-Key Cards are not the same thing as the system’s Virtual Game Cards, which are bought purely digitally and can be lent out to friends or family.
