Burden Tasks You With Protecting a Few Giant Monsters

Burden is described as a tower defense meets Shadow of the Colossus game, and it’s quite literally not much more than that. The team at PixelPickle Games have been crafting a new experience that does just as its name implies, burdening you with the task of protecting these giant, lumbering colossi.

The game is confirmed for a release on Steam Early Access before the month of May, and it is set for a release on PC, Mac, and Linux. As your colossus slowly progresses through the world of Mhoroa, you’ll be attacked by enemies from both the air and the terrain/land on the colossi themselves.

There’s a caveat here with the game’s story, as the goal of each colossus (whether they be land, air, or sea dwelling) is to protect humanity from various natural disasters like floods or earthquakes. The problem is that these giant machines have to get to a specific point to set up their defense, and in their journey they provoke the wrath of other humans who fear them to be walking calamities themselves.

PixelPickle Games founder Rob Dowling had this to say regarding the overall structure of the game:

“It’s a tower defense game, but you’re placing all your towers and structures on the giants you’re trying to defend. There are multiple giants and they’re all different from each other: some fly, some walk through water, some only walk on land. Your goal as an engineer is to safely escort them from point A to point B.”

The main challenge of Burden is the fact that you’ll have to handle multiple battlegrounds on each colossus, i.e. one on its back, and another on its leg. You’ll be able to zoom in on each node and micro-manage each turret and ensure that you’re clearing all of the waves, and as you switch between defensive points, you can also zoom out to get a broader scope of your success, or failure.
