We’ve finally learned what Brian Fargo’s next project is: The Bard’s Tale IV.
He announced the news over on his official Twitter:
“It’s official.. And I’m very personally excited to be working on this. More details to follow.”
The game is a single player CRPG that isn’t a total throwback like his previous outing in Wasteland 2, but rather a modernized attempt to revitalize the genre.
“This is a special game for me,” says Fargo. “It was the first game that really put Interplay on the map, and it just happens that this will fall on the 30th anniversary.”
The game is going to have modern graphics, design, and sound, while having all of the iconic classes and locations that fans have loved from the series in the past. It will be a dungeon crawler, first and foremost, but it won’t be convoluted.
“I don’t think in this day and age we can make you break out the graph paper,” says Fargo. “We might have a hardcore mode for that.”
The game is getting crowdfunding of some sort, alongside funding by InXile Entertainment. Further details weren’t confirmed, but we’ll update you guys as more information comes out.
