Breath of the Wild Finally Gets a Real Dungeon, via Modders

Fans have been modding all kinds of things into The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild since its release. Despite its critical acclaim, one thing most fans and critics agreed upon was that the game’s lack of traditional Zelda-style dungeons was a bad decision. Now, a modder is fixing that.

Modder HailToDodongo has managed to create a rough (the toolset was released two weeks ago) but honest-to-goodness dungeon in the game, complete with puzzles, a boss fight, hidden walls, and more.

It’s worth reiterating this is only possible with an emulated version of the game, on Windows PC, and an understanding of modding a game. The mod replaces an existing shrine, and in this case it replaces the Ja Baij shrine.

The reasoning behind such an ambitious mod is that Breath of the Wild had shrines, smaller dungeons that had simple puzzles and not much more – we said as much in our thorough review for the game.

If you want to get your hands on an authentic Zelda dungeon experience, check out the mod here.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is currently available for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
