Square Enix held a 10th anniversary livestream for Bravely Default in which series producer Tomoya Asano seemingly hinted at a remaster for the first game.
During the 10th anniversary broadcast, a high-definition version of the game’s opening movie was shown, prompting Asano to reminisce on the possibility of the game finally getting a re-release.
“In the last 10 years, I would say that the number of team members has increased, and the number of things we can do has also increased,” Asano said. “On the other hand, when I saw the opening of (Bravely Default) Flying Fairy, I knew that it would be best if we could announce a remastering project of (Bravely Default) Flying Fairy or something like that, and I knew that people would want that, but we are unable to make such an announcement.”
He added, “For now I don’t have the resources to announce anything now. ‘For now,’ I just want to say for now.”
The Nintendo 3DS RPG was released back on October 11th, 2012 in Japan and roughly one year later in its enhanced “For the Sequel” form in the west. A direct sequel, Bravely Default II, was released in February 2021 for Switch and later got a PC port. In case you missed it, you can find our thorough review here!
