Failed MMO Blue Protocol gets second chance as Star Resonance

Blue Protocol

While Bandai Namco’s anime MMORPG Blue Protocol will shut down before it even premieres globally, some fans were upset. Now, it seems the MMO is getting another shot, albeit with a new company.

The recently unveiled Star Resonance MMORPG takes place in the same world as Blue Protocol, on the planet of Regnas, and was originally in development in collaboration with Bandai Namco as another entry based on the IP.

Details on Star Resonance are scant, though a playtest for the MMO is planned for sometime in the near future, in China. Tencent Games will be publishing the game while Shanghai BOKURA is developing it for both PC and smartphones.

Though the new game seemingly shares the same setting as Blue Protocol, it also shares a lot of the same style both in its character designs and weapons – plus it’s another MMO. The key difference here is the new game is being made for PC and smartphones while the original game was for PC and consoles.

Fans still holding out hope for Blue Protocol should know that MMO will shut down in January 2025, news confirmed alongside the cancelation of its western release. It’s possible Tencent brings this new incarnation, Star Resonance, outside of China but we likely won’t know until after it debuts.
