Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has refreshed the official Bloodborne website with some new tidbits, some of which include the game’s multiplayer component.
Here’s the entire batch of information:
Cooperative
Up to three players can team up together online, while their objective is to defeat the level boss (guests will get a word after defeating it).
A cooperative game is kicked off when the host uses the “Hunter Calling Bell” item to summon other hunters. The guest has to use the “Resonant Bell” item to be able to join another person’s game. Once the game is set up, the host and the guests play in the host’s game.
The session will conclude if the host or the guests die, or if a “Separating Shot” is performed, which allows a guest to return to their own game. Matchmaking is performed automatically, although passwords can be set in place to make sure only your friends can join.
Player-versus-Player
Player-versus-Player matches pan out via one-on-one fights that occur in pre-selected areas. The player that is being invaded is the host, while the invader is the guest.
A PVP match begins when the guest uses the “Ominous Resonant Bell” item to initiate their invasion of the user’s game. The host can either use the Ominous Resonance Bell, or launch a co-op session, both of which trigger the arrival of the Bell Chiming Woman.
The host is open for an invasion when they are in the areas with the Bell Chiming Women, which normally appear in co-op play, or when you use the Ominous Resonant Bell, although sometimes you can just find her in the game. An invader can return to their game once they’ve defeated the host, or have been defeated themselves. The PVP session is also over if the host enters a boss room, or uses a Separating Shot.
Asynchronous Multiplayer
Blooborne also features asynchronous online elements similar to the Souls franchise. You can leave hints and messages for other players in the game world, and graves are placed where players have died in the game world. Upon touching a player’s grave, you can replay how they died. You can also see phantoms of other players for a short amount of time.
The Chalice Dungeon
Chalice Dungeons are broken up into two different experiences – normal, and randomly generated. Both of the types can be played online and offline, but the random ones do require an internet connection to download data from the game server. Once created, your Chalice Dungeon can be shared with and accessed by other players.
Game Updates
Bloodborne is getting a day one patch, which comes with better game performance, online optimizations, and more.
PlayStation Plus
Sony made a note that while you need a PlayStation Plus subscription for co-op and player-versus-player, you don’t need one to get the game updates and fixes.
Bloodborne is coming exclusively to PlayStation 4 on March 24th in North America, March 26th in Japan, and finally March 27th in Europe.
