NetEase Games is stepping into new territory with Blood Message, a cinematic single-player action-adventure that could end up being one of the company’s most ambitious projects yet.
Set during the final years of China’s Tang Dynasty in 848 AD, Blood Message follows an ordinary messenger and his young son as they embark on a dangerous journey across deserts, battlefields, and hostile territory. Their goal is simple on paper: deliver a crucial message to the imperial capital. Actually surviving long enough to do it is another story.
Unlike many modern action games, Blood Message is being built as a fully linear experience focused on storytelling, character development, and cinematic set pieces. Combat combines melee action, stealth mechanics, and survival elements, creating an experience that feels closer to games like Uncharted than an open-world RPG.
The game received a new trailer during Summer Game Fest 2026, showing off impressive Unreal Engine 5 visuals, large-scale battles, and detailed environments inspired by real historical events.
Rather than focusing on emperors and legendary warriors, the story highlights the sacrifices of ordinary people caught in extraordinary circumstances.
Blood Message is currently in development for PC and consoles, though NetEase has yet to announce a release date.
