Blizzard Talks Up Nintendo Switch Version for Overwatch

Blizzard has previously teased the possibility of bringing their arena shooter Overwatch to the Nintendo Switch. While the port is definitely possible and the developer isn’t ruling it out, it seems like there are a number of potential roadblocks to it happening.

In an interview between Express.co.uk and Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan, who noted their team would have to “revisit performance” for the game to see how they would get it to run on the Switch. Furthermore, Kaplan talked up the game’s updates, and how a new platform would be an issue:

“And also, it’s already challenging right now maintaining three platforms and patching simultaneously, which is something that we’ve finally been able to achieve. Our first couple of patches would come out on PC first and then later on the consoles, and a lot of that is because you’re working with Microsoft and Sony, and you want to be compliant to their ecosystems. Adding a third ecosystem to that just adds a lot of complexity for us, as well.”

Kaplan noted that he’s a huge fan of the Nintendo Switch, while also saying his second favorite gaming platform of all time is the 3DS.

Overwatch is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
