Blizzard is Making Overwatch Tourney Viewers on Twitch Connect Their Battle.net Accounts

Blizzard have announced via Overwatch Contenders tournament website, stating they will be trialing a new chat moderation system in which users will need a Blizzard Battle.net account to chat via Twitch during the event.

“We’re always testing out new ways to improve the viewer experience for the Overwatch Path to Pro ecosystem. As part of this, Contenders is trialing a new chat moderation program that requires users who wish to participate in Twitch chat to link their Blizzard Battle.net and Twitch accounts.

The program will be trialed during 2018 Season 3 quarterfinals matches across all regions, from Dec. 28, 2018, through Jan. 12, 2019. The Path to Pro team then will evaluate the program’s overall effect on creating a more positive viewing experience.”

Connecting is done via a Twitch account and selecting what to connect it to – in this case a Battle.net account. Those who try to chat with someone who is unlinked “will be met with an automatic reply and prompted to link their accounts.”

Blizzard has made several attempts to tackle its so-called “toxic community” on numerous occasions, and this seems to be their attempt to do so beyond those playing the game. Previously Blizzard had made a deal to that Twitch was the exclusive streaming partner for all their games.

Overwatch is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. What do you all think of the new measure? Sound off in the comments below!
