Blizzard Hiring for Unannounced Project Built in “Robust First-Person Engine”

Blizzard is hiring for what could be yet another shooter to run alongside their wildly popular arena-shooter, Overwatch.

The news comes via new job listings for two lead software engineers (via NeoGAF) that will begin work on “a robust first-person engine for an unannounced project”.

We don’t really have much else to go on – so this could be something Overwatch related, or it could be something else entirely.

What do you hope Blizzard is hiring for? Sound off in the comments below!

I don’t know. A Wowderlands game would be nice. I have had this idea about shooting the Azeroth with big guns for a while now.
That could be fun. Unlike the actual WoW.

Well, when they tried to making a new MMO, they ended up with a shooter. So maybe this will end up as a new RTS.

I’m guessing he wants a looter-shooter set in a warcraft universe

Just about any fun single player game set in a Warcraft universe.
I quite like the world but can’t handle the boring gameplay and the subscription leash.

Could be Starcraft: Ghost, though why they would have to create a new engine from scratch to do it is beyond me.

they aren’t making a new engine. the “Robust first person engine” is probably the one Overwatch uses

Oh, that makes sense. The wording on the article is a bit ambiguous.

Maybe this one will be good.

HAHAHAHA na but seriously a Starcraft game would be cool though it’s tough to expect much from Blizzard these days.

I’m hoping for a single player spin-off for Overwatch. There’s a lot of potential for great level design and boss battles, especially with characters like Genji or D-Va.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Ghost was actually in development considering the recent trend of finally releasing vaporware.

I’m hoping for Star Craft Ghost, but it will probably be more Overwatch.

Warcraft 4.Why the fuck is so easy to see the potential in this by everybody but the people that should make it?

The only thing that keeps me interested in Blizzard right now is Starcraft 2 but that won’t last forever.

They must be bleeding staff right now after the massive Overwatch flop.

I imagine they are going to try their hand at a singleplayer FPS. They already have a dedicated multiplayer FPS, so it would be foolish and cannibalistic to release a title alongside it.

Friendly reminder that there was a scheduled Overwatch graphic novel that was to be released in november, then they decided to cancel it. This novel was supposed to be about the first Omnic Crisis and the original Overwatch strike team.
With this announcement there is a chance that this new project is going to use OW’s engine to make a single player campaign that would be telling the story the graphic novel was originally going to do.

Not exactly what you are expecting but it would be the OW Single Player mode that some people are missing from the main game.

That’s true, I hope you’re right. OW is full of great characters and while the animated shorts are great and all, it would be even better to have a story mode to complement it.
