Blizzard Condemns Hearthstone Player Blitzchung for Supporting Hong Kong Protests, Defends “Pride of China”

Following the pro-Hong Kong protest statements from professional Hearthstone player Chung “blitzchung” Ng Wai and Blizzard Entertainment’s suspension of the player, Blizzard has further condemned Ng Wai on Chinese social media.

The report comes via eSports consultant Rod Breslau who shared a message from Blizzard’s official Hearthstone Weibo (Chinese social media platform) account:

“We are very angered and disappointed at what happened at the event and do not condone it in any way. We also highly object the spreading of personal political beliefs in this manner. Effective immediately we’ve banned the contestant from event and terminated work with the broadcasters. We will always respect and defend the pride of our country.”

It is worth mentioning it is highly likely any Blizzard staff in China – including those running their Weibo account – would be under Chinese law. This would also include them being at risk of being arrested unless they made it abundantly clear they did not support the Hong Kong protests.

We will keep you updated as we learn more.
