Blizzard art director Samwise Didier retires after 30+ years

Samwise Didier, who has been the working for Blizzard since back when they were called Silicon & Synapse back in 1991, is retiring.

The iconic artist and creator – who is largely credited with building Blizzard’s signature art style, is retiring from the company after 32 years.

Didier’s work has been featured throughout many of their biggest titles, with art director credits on multiple titles in the Diablo and Warcraft franchises, and other titles like The Lost Vikings.

The artist announced his departure over on Twitter/X thanking Blizzard for his time with the company, saying Blizzard “became [his] second home”.

During his time at Blizzard Entertainment, he also noted that he learned many art related tools such as Photoshop and how to create 3D models.

Finally, his last words of advice for Blizzard as he presumably will end his gaming industry career for good are as follows.

“Always draw big shoulder pads. ABC (Always be creating), my friends,” Didier said.
