Bethesda Game Studios becomes first fully-unionized Microsoft game studio

The employees of Bethesda Game Studios, maker of the later Fallout series, Starfield, and Elder Scrolls, have fully unionized themselves as One BGS, a first for a major American game studio.

The new Bethesda Game Studios Union, officially titled “One BGS”, is an affiliate of the Communication Workers of America. The CWA calls One BGS “the first wall-to-wall union at a Microsoft game studio,” as it encompasses artists, designers, engineers, and programmers alike.

Bethesda’s Montreal studio have already unionized last June, as well as 300 quality assurance workers from Zenimax, Bethesda’s parent company.

“A majority of developers at Bethesda Game Studios Dallas, Rockville, and Austin, are ecstatic to announce the formation of our union with CWA Union,” the group said on X. “Together as One BGS USA, we advocate for the betterment of every developer at BGS, setting the new standard for our industry.”

Microsoft has yet to recognize the union but is apparently ready for negotiations, as the employees of Activision-Blizzard have also formed a union without any objections from Microsoft, and Zenimax’s employee’s union has been already recognized by Microsoft.
