The Berserk Manga Returns This Month

This is Niche Culture. In this column, we regularly cover anime, geek culture, and things related to video games. Please leave feedback and let us know if there’s something you want us to cover!

Despite originally launching back in 1989, the legendary Berserk manga is still being written and published today by its original creator, Kentaro Miura.

It’s still an ongoing series because of Miura’s regular and sometimes prolonged breaks from producing the manga. Now, we’ve learned the manga will once again resume this month following a half-year hiatus (Editor’s Note: its return was confirmed at the time for this winter).

The news comes via Mantan Web, which points to the manga coming in the latest installment of Young Animal, which hits Japanese shelves on December 22nd. The previous hiatus began in September of last year and ran until March of this year.

Without spoiling too much, the manga follows the vengeful swordsman Guts and his oddball troupe of companions like Casca, Schierke, and Farnese. There’s quite a lot of story covered in anime and video games, however the original manga is naturally the best.

The latest game adaptation for Berserk, Koei Tecmo’s Berserk and the Band of the Hawk, is now available for PC and PlayStation 4. In case you missed it, you can find my review for the game here (I highly recommend it for fans of the series!).
