Publisher CRITICAL REFLEX and developer Ichthys announced a public playtest for Being and Becoming, their stylish new metroidvania game.
The new Being and Becoming playtest will launch sometime later this month, in December 2025. You can sign-up on the game’s Steam page.

Don’t let beauty lull your vigilance, Dreamers. The deeper you descend, the more treacherous the world becomes.
- Decaying terrains — travel through a monumental temple, an ichor-bubbling forest, and an enigmatic, arcane aqueduct. Watch each step and calculate each jump with careful precision. Crumbling platforms and entrapped passages are just the beginning.
- Corrupted enemies — don’t let the crawling horrors and bloodthirsty vegetation fool you. Their decrepit and sickly appearance conceals their true threat. No mistake will be forgiven here.
- Faithful weaponry — the Exalted Axe and Cleaver are not the only allies your predecessors have left for you. The other faithful perished after failing in their mission, but now it’s your turn to fulfill it. Take the time to unlock a weapon’s potential and become a force to be reckoned with.
- Versatile abilities — don’t rely on pure luck and brute force, Dreamer. Assimilate the knowledge of long-lost comrades in faith and discover capabilities that seemed unreachable before. Don’t let their sacrifice go to waste. They have walked and crawled so that you would be able to run.
