Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sequel movie gets first teaser trailer

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Warner Bros. Pictures has finally released the first teaser trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the highly-anticipated Beetlejuice sequel film set to premiere later this year.

The first look at the sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 cult classic is set a number of years after the original and stars returning cast Michael Keaton as the ghostest with the mostest, Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, Catherine O’Hara as her mother Delia Deetz, alongside newcomers Jenna Ortega as Lydia’s daughter Astrid, Monica Bellucci, Justin Theroux, Arthur Conti, and Willem Dafoe. Jeffrey Jones, who played Lydia’s father Charles Deetz, likely isn’t returning due to his status as a criminal sex offender.

Tim Burton is directing with his studio, who are co-producing the sequel with Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment with Brad Pitt, Burton, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Tommy Harper, Marc Toberoff, and David Geffen all co-producing. Danny Elfman is returning to produce the soundtrack, another bit of delightful news.

A sequel to Beetlejuice has been bubbling in the works for decades since a couple years after the original film debuted. Tim Burton originally tried to get the sequel together and had both Keaton and Ryder on board, however Burton got busy filming Batman Returns, which also starred Keaton. The original idea was to go totally crazy and produce a “Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian” theme/title, only for it to be stopped and restarted over the years.

Finally, the current production of the Beetlejuice sequel was confirmed back in 2022 and largely all fell together much quicker and is seemingly adapted as a direct sequel, set in the same town in rural northeastern USA.

The long-awaited sequel’s synopsis reads: “Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.”

Here’s the first teaser trailer:

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will premiere only in theaters and IMAX on September 6th, 2024 nationwide, and internationally beginning September 4th, 2024.
