Revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, we finally got another look at Vivarium, the latest project from Studio Meadowflower and publisher Serenity Forge, developed in collaboration with Crunchyroll and Shochiku Games.
You take on the role of 11-year-old Jenny, a cheerful resident of a tiny town contained entirely within a terrarium. Life appears simple at first as Jenny spends her days gardening, cooking, decorating her home, and getting to know her neighbors.
Yet as the story progresses, unusual events begin disrupting the town’s peaceful routine, raising questions about the true nature of the world around her.
One of the more interesting mechanics is the game’s connection to real-world time. New story events and discoveries appear each day, encouraging you to regularly return and see how the terrarium continues to evolve.
Choices made during conversations and major story moments can also influence both the community and its residents, leading to different outcomes and encouraging replayability.
Visually, Vivarium immediately stands out thanks to its hand-illustrated art style inspired by classic anime films. Combined with its mix of cozy activities and underlying mystery, the game feels like it could appeal to both life-sim fans and players looking for a more narrative-driven experience.
Vivarium is scheduled to launch on Windows PC (Steam, Microsoft Store, Epic Games Store) and Xbox Series X|S sometime in 2027. Here’s a new trailer:
