If you were a PC gamer in the 1990s, you probably played Activision’s re-imagining of the classic Atari arcade tank sim, Battlezone. Combining simulation with RTS and first person shooter elements, Battlezone gained a devoted following which continued to support the game long after its launch. Though it’s notoriously difficult to get running on modern systems, fans may not have to struggle with 20th century installation routines any longer, since a remastered version is due to hit Steam this spring.
Officially titled Battlezone 98 Redux, the remaster will be developed by a team from Rebellion that contains several of the original game’s designers. Rebellion, who have previously worked on the Sniper Elite games, also plans to release a Playstation VR version of Battlezone as well.
